Sherri's Story

Sherri Swanson is one of several students who have enrolled in our courses through the virtual education provider, ed2go. There are hundreds of courses offered online in a variety of subjects, with some being self-paced and others being centered on a schedule. For Swanson, she completed the Freight Brokerage and Agent Training course. So far, it’s already helped her make some positive changes in business logistics that impact her as a local tax collector in McKean County.

“I first heard about NPRC through my daughter, who completed the Dental Assisting program here. Watching her grow and succeed sparked my curiosity about what NPRC had to offer adult learners like me. When I started exploring options, I discovered the partnership with ed2go and was impressed by the flexibility and variety of remote learning programs available. It felt like the perfect fit for someone balancing work and personal responsibilities.”
While balancing her career and family, Swanson was able to complete the course on her own time and the learning perfectly fit into her busy schedule.

“The course was self-paced, which was a huge advantage. I was able to complete it over several weeks, fitting it into my schedule without stress. It was organized into clear modules with interactive content, quizzes, and practical scenarios. I also did earn a certification upon completion, which I’m proud of. It’s already helped me better understand the logistics side of business, and I’m exploring ways to apply it professionally soon.”

Though she is versed in various parts of business, this opportunity allowed her to embark on learning in a new area to diversify her knowledge and capabilities as a professional. “As someone working in tax collection, I’ve always valued expanding my skill set. The freight brokerage and agent training appealed to me because it offered a chance to diversify my professional capabilities. Whether for career advancement or simply becoming more well-rounded, I saw it as a strategic way to add another tool to my belt—especially in an industry that’s constantly evolving and interconnected with logistics and finance.”

As someone who has gone through programming herself and supported her daughter through attending a course at NPRC, Swanson in turn is a champion for the College and encourages others to check out the various opportunities through not just ed2go but also associate degrees and Work-Ready Certificates.

“For people who think they don’t have the time or can’t afford college, I encourage them to investigate what NPRC has to offer. I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn through NPRC and ed2go. It’s empowered me to pursue new interests and build confidence in areas I never thought I’d explore. For anyone on the fence about going back to school or trying something new—don’t hesitate. NPRC makes it doable, and ed2go makes it flexible. You won’t regret investing in yourself. I think many people would be pleasantly surprised at how affordable it is and how someone can make these learning opportunities fit into their schedule.”
