We are #NPRCProud to celebrate Kimberly Brewer as NPRC’s Student of the Month for October 2026. A resident of Emlenton, Pennsylvania, Brewer is a working mom who balances her career, volunteerism, and life as a mom to six. Though life is busy, she’s committed herself to earning a degree in general studies to develop her skills and help advance her career in healthcare.
Brewer first heard about NPRC several years ago, but did not consider attending at the time. Eventually, her son Braylyn, enrolled as a dual enrollment student and was able to take courses at the College at no cost. This intrigued her enough to investigate the school more seriously, and through her search, she discovered how affordable earning an associate degree at NPRC could be. “I decided that since there was an opportunity for my son to attend free because of dual enrollment, I would also give it a try. Everyone I have been in contact with at NPRC has made my experience a positive one. I haven’t met a single staff member that hasn’t been encouraging. Everyone is always willing to give an extra set of eyes on assignments and is very understanding. I’ve enjoyed every course I’ve had so far, too.”
In her first semester, Brewer became a Dean’s List student and was quickly recognized by staff for her giving heart. She is the mom to three biological children (Braylyn, Leeam, and Vayda), foster mom of two (Christian and Cameron), and adopted mom of one (Oden). She is also a volunteer for her sister-in-law’s business in Clarion County, Deja-Me on Main. Deja-Me on Main is a clothing intake business that serves as the store front for the Clothes4Communities charity initiative.
This year, the business was able to support 653 children in the surrounding areas of Clarion County with back-to-school clothing. They also partnered with High Street Insurance and Financial Services and UPMC this year to provide families with more resources, including school supplies, laundry detergent, personal hygiene products, and oral/dental health services. They also received an in-kind donation of $500 to provide the children with new socks and underwear for the school year. The momentum has continued as they have already begun efforts for next year’s giveaways.
In addition to this back-to-school giveaway, Brewer helps oversee the Prom Sponsorship Program and the Clothes4Communities clothing voucher program, which helps provide clothing for those in need, including students preparing for school dances. Her volunteerism also includes hosting community service opportunities for juvenile and adult probation and serving on the board of WoodmenLife Chapter 696 in Clarion County.
It is unquestionably a busy lifestyle, but one that speaks to Brewer’s commitment to helping others any chance she has. She also gets by with a bit of help from her own friends and family. “I’ve been especially thankful for our Care Community at Chapel on the Hill in Emlenton. When we have faced our own challenges as a family, they have brought dinner consistently every Wednesday as a way of showing their support, helping us have a relaxing evening. I am also grateful for my mother-in-law for helping babysit all the kids while I have class and for helping keep life at home a little less chaotic. It can be a lot trying to juggle appointments, school, work, and daily chores.”
Going back to college is something Kimberly Brewer has wanted to do for a long time. Now, with her family in a position to make that possible and NPRC offering affordable and flexible options for working parents and adults, she’s able to pursue that goal while balancing everything else in her life. “Our family is finally in a position that I can afford to go back to college and that’s partly because NPRC has such affordable tuition. I’m glad I decided to give NPRC a chance.”
