Brandan's Story

Brandan Bosko, an employee of the City of Warren, earned his CDL in 2023. It has not only allowed him to grow into his current role as an Operator II but has also helped prepare him for a potential future role as a mechanic.

A Warren County native, Bosko grew up on a local farm, where he gained experience operating heavy equipment from a young age. That background gave him some familiarity with truck driving when he entered the program offered in partnership with NPRC and PA Pride, LLC. Over the month-long course, he built on that experience and gained greater confidence behind the wheel. Bosko has now been driving trucks for the City of Warren for around four years. “I not only drive, but I also inspect trucks for the city. Earning my CDL back in 2023 has allowed me to go on and perform a lot of different tasks for the city.”

Bosko completed the course in St. Marys at NPRC’s driving range. His group learned how to drive trucks on backroads and highways in the middle of winter. They traveled from St. Marys to Cranberry as a group several times, providing different driving experiences to improve their skills and gain confidence.

“What was neat to see was I had classmates who were comfortable driving from the start and then there was someone who had no experience coming in. But by the end of the course, each of us grew a great deal. Not only was it a great class for my career, but I enjoyed getting to know my classmates and our instructor over the few weeks. It was also convenient because the trucks we drove were inspected and ready for us to practice and drive in. Previously, the city used our own trucks to test and practice. For this program, employers don’t have to do that, which I know I appreciated and felt it was a convenience to myself and the city.”

His message to those considering earning their CDL is that it can be useful for more than driving a truck on the open road. “Drivers can hit the open road, find jobs driving locally, become inspectors, and many more careers. It’s a great skill to have and license to obtain, and people can get hired quickly with a CDL.”
