Kelly's Story

Our Culinary Boot Camps in Wellsboro have been a huge success and students from Bradford, Potter, and Tioga Counties have enrolled at no cost thanks to the generosity of so many from around the region. One of the most recent Culinary Boot Camp completers is Kelly Yungwirth, who enrolled in the course to expand her personal knowledge in the kitchen at her additional workplace.

“The Culinary Bootcamp Course at NPRC offers hands-on training that goes beyond recipes. James Fry, the instructor, was so encouraging and passionate about sharing his techniques and culinary knowledge. He reads his audience, asks what we want to learn, and incorporates our ideas into full-course meals.”

Yungwirth was sponsored to take this course through a scholarship and appreciates all those for their generous donations and investment in her. This opportunity allowed her to build on her experience, learn new techniques, and improve her skills in a hands-on environment close to home. “Participating in the Culinary Bootcamp was very rewarding. The hands-on learning and welcoming environment enabled me to enhance my skills and gain confidence in the kitchen. James works individually with students of all experience levels, making the course practical and enjoyable for every learner.”

As for some of the biggest highlights from the course, she particularly enjoyed collaborating with others who share the same passion for cooking, developing stronger knife skills, food preparation techniques, learning the importance of timing and organization in the kitchen, and earning her ServSafe Manager Certificate through the course; an accomplishment she sought for a long time. “I recommend this course to anyone wanting practical culinary skills in an encouraging, hands-on setting. It builds confidence, creativity, and a strong foundation for cooking. Everyone in our class was sad that the program concluded, and the students would like to see a second, more advanced course offering as well.”

We are so thankful you enjoyed your experience at NPRC, Kelly!
